Thicker Plastic. Same Price

The thickness of plastic cards is usually measured in microns (a micron being 1/1000th of a millimeter). Most customers feel that 760 micron is the ideal thickness of plastic as this is identical to an average VISA or Mastercard. While the majority of our products have always been available at that thickness, our range of tinted translucent plastic cards has been the exception. Before today this type of card measured 680 micron. However, we have made improvements to the manufacturing process that allow us to now offer tinted translucent plastic cards at 760 micron as standard without affecting the existing pricing. All orders currently in production will automatically be upgraded to the thicker plastic.

Daily Showcase

From today we will be showcasing one card a day on our home page. Each will be plucked from our recently completed projects, each falling within the remit of the free design service we offer to all clients who don’t already have print-ready artwork. We will try and give a little background for each metal or plastic card design shown, as well as the specs for each example. We’ll do our very best to update the showcase every weekday.

New Portfolio Additions

We have added a sprinkling of fresh metal and plastic business card designs to our portfolio today. They include examples of our translucent plastic, our tinted translucent plastic and our satin black plastic business cards. We have also added examples of our metal business cards and our mini metal cards too. Our portfolio can be viewed here.

All of the entries in our portfolio were created as part of our free design service, offered to all customers who don’t already have artwork. Once we have collected a few pieces of information, our design team will put together an initial concept and first draft. We then consult our manufacturing technicians who review our proposal, making sure it takes into account the inherent limitations of working with metal and plastic. Once both teams are happy, a photo-realistic, digital mockup is generated using our innovative proofing system. This shows how the card would look once produced. We then seek your feedback, making revisions until you are 100% happy with the layout.

More info about our free design service and instructions on how to get started can be found here.

Eat Sleep Live

Relocating to new premises has been exciting yet stressful. Most of that stress is caused by service providers who don’t deliver on their promises. But sometimes you have the good fortune to work with a company that shares the same values as your own. Great customer service. Fabulous craftsmanship. A genuine pride in everything they do. One such company is EatSleepLive.co.uk

It was clear from the outset, that a property with as much character as Worzel’s Barn needed to be treated sympathecially. Our own products are bespoke, hand crafted and well designed. We wanted furniture that lived up to those ideals. So we approached EatSleepLive with some embarrasingly rough sketches and asked them to come back to us with some proposals.

They worked with us, patiently listening to our poorly conceived ideas. Then, using reclaimed timber, they turned those ideas into exquisite yet practical pieces of furniure that suit their surroundings perfectly. On time and on budget. They are one of those rare companies to which we can truthfully say “we look forward to working with you again soon”.

New Phone System

Today we have telecommunication engineers on site, tearing out the antiquated cabling and installing a shiny new phone system. Once in place it should help us connect client of our plastic and metal business cards with the appropriate member of the PlasmaDesign team more swiftly. However, during the installation itself, we expect some disruption. If all goes well this should last no longer than 24 hours. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Moving Home

Most of the UK enjoyed a rare four day weekend in honour of the Queens Royal Jubilee between 2nd - 5th June. Not so for most of the PlasmaDesign family. Instead we spent the time relocating our design and customer care team to our new premises. Worzel’s Barn is a converted grain store situated on a working farm in Hampshire, England. Before moving our desks, Macs and equipment, we had the unenviable (and unexpected) job of laying 600 carpet tiles, painting thousands of square footage of wall and changing 50 strip and halogen bulbs, all situated 18ft above floor level.

It has some history. Back in the 70’s and early 80’s it was commonly seen on UK terrestrial TV as the set of Worzel Gummidge; a childrens program following the trials and tribulations of a scarecrow with removable heads. It’s changed a lot since Worzel lived in it…

But we still have work to do. Within the next two months we will be relocating our manufacturing team to the same site and carrying out other building work and improvements. But it’s fair to say we are already very proud of our new home and looking forward to the future. More photos will follow.

Worzel's Barn

PlasmaDesign Ltd was founded back in 2004. It started life as many businesses do; on a kitchen table with nothing but a second hand computer and a tiny budget. We are proud to have grown year on year. With no outside funding we’ve built a sustainable business whose sole focus has always been the interests of our customers and employees. We now design and manufacture over one million innovative metal and plastic business cards annually, predominantly for small to medium size businesses just like us.

After several years of steady growth it’s time to take another step forward. In June 2012 we will begin relocating to Worzels Barn. Set in the Hampshire countryside, we like to think our new home reflects the personality of the business and it’s employees.  It’s well designed with bags of character, with an open plan layout that focuses on providing the staff at PlasmaDesign with a professional but comfortable atmosphere condusive to creativity. We share our new home with a muster of excitable and inqusitive peacocks and for those of you who were watching UK TV in the 70’s, it comes with a little history of it’s own.

Return to Scatterbrook - Photos

We’re very proud to have come this far.

We will be doing our very best to keep disruption during our relocation to a minimum.
