Landscape Gallery
One of the reasons I began posting my work for use as desktop wallpaper was that, through my own experience. it was difficult to find good quality imagery at a sufficient size to look good on the largest monitors. That was nearly 3 years ago. Now Apple has made the hunt for decent wallpapers even more difficult by adding a 30" LCD screen to their line up of Cinema Displays. These new widescreen monitors have a resolution of up to 2560x1600 pixels. Not wanting to be outdone, I have re-rendered many of my more popular images at 2560x1600 as well as adding a few new wallpapers to the mix. Of course, these images will also scale down nicely to fit the two smaller models; the 20" and 23" displays.

Weather FrontSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4.2, Photoshop CS I recently purchased my first Wacom tablet. For those not familiar with computer tablets, it is an input device that attempts to mimic the pencil and paper of the conventional art genre. The operator moves a pen over a trackpad (similar to those found on today's laptops but much larger) and the strokes are reproduced on the screen. This new method of working has taken some getting used to. The blending between the computer generated forground and the 2D photographic backdrop (generously made available for use by Thomas Khran) is achieved using Photoshop CS using the new Wacom Intuos 3 tablet. |

AnhuiSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4, Photoshop 7 I use a program called Vue to do most of my landscape pieces. I have always found that it is very difficult to get that fiery red sunset look in Vue and have made a deliberate decision to work on perfecting this technique. This image, with it's distinctly oriental feel is the result of this exercise. |

GlacierSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 I was emailed by a visitor who pointed out to me that most of my landscapes tend to be of a tropical or water-based nature. He asked if I plan on creating any images of valleys or mountains. This is my response. Believe it or not there are over 90 fir trees in this composition. I also spent many hours trying to get the mountainous terrain exactly as I wanted it with fluvial erosion and all. |

On The Golden PondSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Being only 28, I only vaguely recollect the Henry Fonda film from which I borrowed the title. All I really remember is the beautiful shots of them fishing on a huge lake in the middle of nowhere. That is what I have tried to capture in this image. |

LochSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Being my interpretation of a cold but stormy winters day on the banks of a Scottish loch, I used a particularly wide 'virtual' lens to create the expansive skyscape. |

Bora 2002Software used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Every now and then I spend some time looking through my back catalogue of artwork. I often find images that now look tired and dated. One such image is the original version of ' Bora '. So I decided to give it a makeover and completely update it. Bora 2002 is the result. |

HibernationSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4.2 This image was originally commissioned by Southampton University as part of a publication into the moons of Pluto. I was handed a sheet of paper which contained facts about the atmosphere of Charon; chemical makeup, temperature, etc. 'Hibernation' is my interpretation of the statistics I was given. |

LodgeSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Back in 2001 i visited Gambia, Africa. While there I was lucky enough to visit the historical site, Lamin Lodge. There we dined on local cuisine by gas light (as there is no electricity) and then joined in with some native african dancing. A real experience. This image is inspired by my unforgettable night at the lodge surrounded by mangrove swamps. |

The BalconySoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 This was one of early images. I was very proud of it back in 2000 but I have grown a little tired of it since. However, I have chosen to add it to the widescreen collection because it is still one of the most downloaded images on the site and seems very popular. |

Software used: Vue d'Esprit 4.1 This image has been sitting in my 'work in progress' folder for quite a while. I was never quite happy with it up until now. I revisited the image and decided the original atmosphere was the problem. I then set about revamping the sky and finally got what I was looking for through a few hours of trial and error. |

SeclusionSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4.2 Yet another 'tropical' scene, I began creating this image after an exceptionally bad day at work (my day job!). You know. One of those days when everybody seems to be on your back. So I tried to create a place which felt like it was miles from anyone. This is the outcome. |

Palm DriveSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Inspired by the beaches of Miami. This was created by recycling the wireframe world of 'Bora', an image also found in this collection. A simple change of camera angle and location, a new sky and time of day and voila! |

Cotton RiseSoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Created using Vue d'Esprit 4, I went to more trouble than usual to create the clouds found in the original version. For the newly rendered widescreen version I have altered the coloring adding a little more red to the overall atmosphere. |

Kestrel ValleySoftware used: Vue d'Esprit 4 Since creating 'Glacier' I have received a lot of requests asking for images of a similar style. Kestrel Valley is a deliberate attempt to create an image which compliments both Glacier and 10,000ft. |
