Hardware The hardware available to the CG artist becomes faster and more powerful with every day that passes. As a result you can guarantee that any new hardware you purchase will be out of date before you even get it home! I have long believed that the artists imagination and familiarity with the software are far more important factors than the speed of the hardware but, for what its worth, following the link below you will provide more details on the hardware I use. |
Software Five years ago, CG art software was both expensive and difficult to use, with its quirky user interfaces and extremely slow rendering times. Five years on and things have changed dramatically. GUI's are now welcoming and intuitive. Rendering speed has been increased. And best of all the price of software has been substantially reduced. Follow the link below to find details on the software used by me and thousands of other CG artists around the world. |
We receive many emails from visitors who want to know what software and hardware we use to create our images. Many of these people are surprised when they find out that you do not need a super computer and thousands of pounds worth of software to create quality CG art.
I began creating digital artwork using a PII laptop with 256Mb RAM and a 1024x768 screen. My first software package was Corel Bryce 5 and cost me £200 (about $300). I was able to create artwork that I was proud to show my friends and family within a few hours of first firing up the software; a testament to how user friendly the software has become.
If you would like to explore the world of digital art but don't know where to begin, I suggest you visit the two pages below. Each gives details on the software and hardware I use and also provides links to the developers of equipment listed.
