What Software Do We Use?

Five years ago, CG art software was both expensive and difficult to use, with its quirky user interfaces and extremely slow rendering times. Five years on and things have changed dramatically. GUI's are now welcoming and intuitive. Rendering speed has been increased. And best of all the price of software has been substantially reduced. Below are details of the software used by me and thousands of other CG artists around the world. .

bryceDaz - Bryce 6.1 Much of my earlier work was created using Bryce. Specializing in landscape creation, Bryce is one of the most instantly gratifying pieces of software I have ever used. After only a few hours, any experienced PC user with a little imagination can create something they can be proud to show their friends. I tend not to use Bryce for landscape work these days but still use it heavily for my abstract work. Unfortunately, Corel have recently announced that they will no longer be supporting Apple Macs in future updates. Windows users can look forward to the forthcoming Bryce 6.

vueE-on Software - Vue d'Esprit 5 I decided to move away from Bryce and to Vue d'Esprit as I felt it gave me a more natural computer generated landscape. With faster rendering, real time lens-flare, superior vegetation creation, advanced volumetric's. and Open GL landscape modeling this piece of software is worth considering over Bryce 5, This is especially true for Mac users after Corel's recent announcement to drop future development of Bryce for Macs. E-on have also recently added a professional edition to the Vue range although most of its new features are aimed at creators of animation.

Adobe CS3 BoxAdobe Creative Suite CS3 Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium software is the designer's dream toolkit for print, web and interactive, and mobile publishing. It combines all-new versions of essential tools for professional page layout, image editing, illustration, and Adobe PDF workflows with new tools for designing engaging websites, interactive experiences, and mobile content. Design Premium offers a productive, intuitive, and tightly integrated environment with everything you need to design content.

Mac OS X 10.5 BoxApple - Mac OS X 10.5 Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is Apple's first major operating system upgrade since Tiger more than two years ago. The changes include more than 300 new features, which, while not earth-shattering, further streamline the experience of using a Mac. Leopard makes it far easier to find documents and applications than Windows Vista. Leopard's interface niceties made the daily mechanics of using the computer more pleasurable. Mundane chores, such as finding files and backing up data, become a visual treat.
