desktop wallpapers - rubik

Rubik (Members Only)This is most definately the darkest image I have released in quite a while. Five different versions are included in zip file, all with subtle differences in colour scheme. As usual, feedback is most welcome.

desktop wallpapers - make poverty history

Make Poverty History I was lucky enough to be stood in a crowd of 60,000 U2 fans this week watching my favourite band give a kick ass performance. Bono is known for his strong political views (some of which I agree with, some of which i don't) and he made sure the crowd knew what they were. The very next day I watched Claire Short (a UK politician) berating Bono and Geldof on national TV for their recent "misguided" efforts to bring the plight of Africa to worlds attention. My first reaction was to ask 'what has she ever done for the cause'. My second thought was to ask 'what had I done for the cause'. This wallpaper is my very tiny contribution. Hopefully it will put a few thousand monitors to good use over the coming weeks & months. It is, of course, free for all to download.

desktop wallpapers - still life

Still Life (Members Only) This image is a departure from my usual style. 'Still Life' is not a genre I usually indulge in and there is a lot less colour in this image than I would typically use. My intention was to create a really nice 3D render of a graphic designers 'survival kit'. There are many different versions in the ZIP file; an assortment of colours and renditions with a cordless mouse.

desktop wallpapers - spine

Spine (Members Only) The idea for this image came from a diagram in a science magazine of the human spine. Obviously a lot of 'artistic license' has been applied. There is also widescreen versions available at both 1440x900 and 1920x1200 pixels.

desktop wallpapers - snowflake

Snowflake have had a few people ask for something a little festive this Christmas. Hopefully this will please those who have taken the time to send me their requests. There are three variations in the ZIP file, all rendered at 1024x768 pixels. Larger resolutions, including widescreen versions, are available in the members-only area of the site.

desktop wallpapers - jacks

Jacks (Members Only)This image is the first in a new series of similar-themed wallpapers. A 1024x768 version is now available to all. The members version of 'Jacks' is rendered at 1600x1200 and contains several variations (different coloration, varied lighting etc). The members zip files also include a special version optimized and rendered for Apple Mac Powerbook's running OS X.

desktop wallpapers - binary

Binary (Members Only)I have added three versions of 'Binary' to the 'Crystal Collection' gallery. Each has different lighting and are all located in the one zip file. This was the image I was working on when I decided to begin offering the 'Crystal Monogram' personalized wallpapers to visitors. You can order your own initials in 'virtual cut crystal' by visiting the PlasmaDesign online store .

desktop wallpapers - jacks 2

Jacks II (Members Only)I was so pleased with the results of my first Jacks wallpaper that I am still using it for my own desktop picture. (It is very rare that I use my own work on my laptop as by the time I have completed it I am fed up with it!). So I decided to do a second to compliment the first. I have included several versions in the ZIP, each with different coloration.

desktop wallpapers - paper weight

PaperweightIt is no secret that I am a proud mac user. I like Windows XP but wouldn't be without my Apple Powerbook. So I thought I would give the mac community a treat. My newest image is called Paperweight and is available to all visitors. There are actually five separate images. One for Powerbook's, iMacs, iBooks, PowerMac G4s and (for those of you lucky enough to own one already) PowerMac G5s.

desktop wallpapers - we must not forget

We Must Not Forget I decided to create this image after visiting Ground Zero in NY earlier in the month. I went there to pay my respects and to lay some flowers on behalf of a friend. What I found was a tourist trap, with stalls selling cheap trinkets, people climbing the perimeter fence to get a 'better' view of the craters and visitors taking photos as if it was an amusement park. I felt that people had forgotten the horrors witnessed there only 18 months ago. The words are taken from one of the many notes left on the church railings overlooking the remains of the WTC. There are two versions in the downloadable zip file.

desktop wallpapers - chess

Chess (Members Only)Chess has always held a fascination for me. I don't get to play it too much because my fiancee hates it and my kids are too young to understand the rules. Nevertheless, I still own a few chess boards. One from Africa, one that my granddad carved whilst captive in a POW camp and a glass one that my mother bought for me a few Christmas' ago. This wallpaper is obviously modeled on the latter.

desktop wallpapers - molecule

Molecule (Members Only)When I was a kid I was given a pocket sized science dictionary. I was fascinated by the diagrams and illustrations in it. I remember several diagrams of various molecules. This image is based loosely on those pictures.

desktop wallpapers - strike

Strike (Members Only)The second addition to my 'Crystal' collection, this members-only image really tested the rendering capabilities of my Powerbook! Adding transparency or reflections to a piece really bumps up the render time. Adding both is suicidal! This image has these effects in abundance with glass spheres inside the skittles and a huge crystal bowling ball!

desktop wallpapers - oldfield

Oldfield (Members Only)I am told that on the day I was born, 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield was No.1 in the UK album charts. The cover had a chrome tubular bell floating over a hay field in it. When I accidentally created the glass form in this image it reminded me a lot of the 'Tubular Bell'. This is a very loose interpretation of that album cover.

desktop wallpapers - strike 2

Strike II (Members Only)This was created using the same wireframe model used in the first 'Strike' image. There are 3 different versions in the downloadable ZIP file. The gold version shown here, an aqua-marine colored version and a monochrome version (which is my personal favorite).

desktop wallpapers - bonsai

Bonsai (Members Only)This wallpaper began life as what I thought was quite a simple concept. But not for the first time I think I bit off more than I, or my laptop, could chew. The tree took over 4 days for the computer to render! I would have liked to make a few minor alterations to it but I think my computers CPU would have melted if I had asked it to render it again!
